Travel Tips

The Top 5 Travel Tips

1. Choose the time of year you are travelling based on the weather at your destination

The weather in China can vary incredibly sharply from one season to the next. For example, Shanghai can experience snow in winter and stifling humidity in the summer, neither of which make for enjoyable travel.

2. Choose appropriate places to visit according to your special interests

Some parts of China have wonderful historical heritage and remains, while others have world-class shopping to offer. Often in China , these two features do not co-exist. Do proper research before you travel, so not to be disappointed.

3. Avoid stress in your trip; routing on the tour itinerary should be as loose as possible

Travelling in China is significantly easier than many countries, however with such a vast scale and vast numbers of people, major problems can still occur. Do not plan an itinerary that leaves no room for delays.

4. Getting lost in China is very easy – take precautions!

If you are travelling with a tour group, please clearly record the contact instructions for your tourguide and driver, and the license plate number of your bus so that you can easily find your group if you lose your way. Wherever possible make sure you carry a map.

5. Pay attention to local customs and observe the local social mores

If you want to take photographs or videos, make sure to establish first whether photos are allowed at the scenic spot. Some special attractions (like cultural relics or museums) prohibit photography. Be sure to respect China 's cultural relics.

Tipping in China

While previously frowned upon in China, tipping has now become a more accepted way of offering recognition of good service from tour guides, drivers, waiters, and other service providers. As a basic rule, the more westernised the city, the more common the practice of tipping. As a result, tipping is most common in Hong Kong and Macau, followed by Shanghai and Beijing , and less common in other regional cities. Tipping will not be expected by roadside stores and stalls. Obviously, tipping remains a personal matter. Whether you tip and how much you tip remains up to you.
